Odd Tribute Poems for Week of October 5

So today in class we looked at two poems as the basis for a "tribute" poem of sorts. You will show your love and friendship with someone you care about in a very unique way.

First there was the poem "What I Would Do" by Marc Petersen--
You can find that here: http://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/063.html

In this poem, you are methodically, with vivid imagery, showing what actions you would take if your friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend, or family member were to "leave you" or end a relationship.

You other choice is "You Bring Out the Boring White Guy" by Jim Daniels.
You can find that one here: http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/pure_products_of_america/you_bring_out_t.php

Both of these poems depend on sharp imagery, wit, and creativity. "Boring White Guy" is a list poem made up of pop culture allusions that all add up to a general feeling. For instance, if I were to write, " You bring out the Fourth of July sparkler in me/The microwave popcorn in me/The ten cans of Monster energy drink in me..." These lines would convey the "exitement", the craziness that is brought out by his or her company.

Choose one of these two poems. The final draft is due on Friday, October 9, 2009.
